snap info node ?

it is maintained by nodejs upstream and offers you 13 different stable
versions to pick from (from 6.x to 20.x) ... and indeed comes with the
respective npm version. 

(and i know it is used by a lot of enterprises in professional setups
to keep the npm packages securely distinct from the OS)
