it is totaly unrelated to *how* firefox is provided, the point is that
apt can not handle the case where you have (in its view) no default
browser installed (and the current apt maintainer even admits this in
the bug report) ... it does not matter of that browser is delivered as
tarball, appimage, flatpak, rpm or you name it ... 

it is simply one more reason for snaps to exist even though it might
not look ike it, snaps actually solve these dependency issues apt/dpkg
introduce through their concept.
