HUH???

I did NOT remove anything to find myself in the absurd situation I
discovered when I started this thread.

I installed Ubuntu 22.04 LTS from usb key, selecting a standard
desktop. I have NO memory of removing or selecting anything about
firefox.

Indeed, I realized only after a while that I had firefox from a snap
package instead as a .deb one, and said so on this list:

so it's not "people that **do** remove etc..." It's "people who just
trust the installer to install a browser and configure the system to
use it". At least for Ubuntu 22.04 LTS, of course.
