Broken Gnome, Help needed

Hi!

I've played around with Gnome and Gnome extensions on my new Ubuntu 22.04.1
system. Then I cloud no longer log in. The screen went black for some
seconds and then I was back at the password prompt.

After logging in on the virtual console, I did "journalctl _UID=1000" and
found an awful lot of red error messages. Particularly Tracker appeared to
be broken.

When I tried to log in again, after rebooting two or three times, it
suddenly worked. Except for five error windows appearing, which are labeled
"Entschuldigung, Ubuntu 22.04 hat einen internen Fehler festgestellt."
(Sorry, Ubuntu 22.04 has detected an internal error.)

The offending programs were /usr/libexec/tracker-extract-3 (twice),
/usr/libexec/gnome-session-binary, /usr/libexec/at-spi-bus-laucher and
/usr/libexec/tracker-miner-fs-3. The "ProblemType" was "Crash" in all five
cases, with signal 5.

What can I do now? Can I reinstall Gnome? Would this work, or would it only
make matters worse:

sudo apt reinstall gnome

What files/directories would need to be restored?

I have a day-old backup, but I would hate to lose today's work and recover
from a backup AGAIN.

TIA,
Volker
