Switching HDMI inputs

I don't either. On my machine I generally bypass all of that "junk" by getting
rid of most of the Desktop Manager crap I have no use for. My Ubuntu 18.04
system has Mate installed, but without the menus, window manager (I use FVWM
instead) and with the file manager removed (I hacked the conf to alter the
"required components" to not include the file manager). The only "visible" bit
of Mate is one panel. I've only ever done this for systems I don't use
personally, but are used in for not-quite-"kiosk" type situations, specificly
things like the desktop for the circulation desk at a library, which needs to
stay up and not cycling into some kind of sleep mode (eg screen saver or
screen lock, etc.), so the people manning the circulation desk don't have to
deal with that if things get quiet and then busy again.
