This reminds me a bit of the Danny de Vito quote, indicating that
military intelligence is an oxymoron.

I think it reasonable to question why people have to join a forum,
rather than a mailing list, to get support for using an email application.

Kind of makes a person wonder about the state of mind, of the people
responsible for such a decision ("here is an axe - but, to use it, you
have to use a shovel").

No - wrong it affects users of different "flavours", and, different
versions of Linux, using different desktop environments, and, is not
limited to Ubuntu using the gnome desktop environment.

I run gnome applications (that have been renamed to hide that they are
from gnome), such as "Text editor" (previously, when openness and
accountability prevailed, known as gedit), and, I use gedit (in its
concealment guise, known as "Text editor"), as my preferred GUI text
editor (when I am editing system files, I use vi), on Ubuntu Mate, and,
Linux Mint Mate 21, and, I am sure that users of other gnome products,
like gdebi, gparted, Ekiga, etc, etc, etc, use them on systems other
than with gnome desktop environments, like people use some kde
applications, like kmail and kontact and konqueror, etc, etc, etc, on
systems other than with kde desktop environments,

As indicated in my above statement.

Ah, Douglas Adams may have written the record of what happened, but, it
was the Vogon captain who said it (we should cite the speaker of the
words)...

It is like the quote from my older signature;

"
"So once you do know what the question actually is,
you'll know what the answer means."
- Deep Thought,
Chapter 28 of Book 1 of
"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy:
   A Trilogy In Four Parts",
   written by Douglas Adams,
   published by Pan Books, 1992
"
