Hi,

I would try Ctrl+Alt+F2 ... F6 and not assume that Ctrl+Alt+Del does
work at all, but instead run

  shutdown -h now

first and if this doesn't work, then 

  sudo shutdown -h now

If both don't work, there at lest might be useful output.
