I am sad to find that XSane does not work on Ubuntu. I used that app on 
a different Linux and it worked wonders.
You could select the definition, you could magnify or reduce the scanned 
image, you could save the scan and
even print it from the app. Most of that does not work on Ubuntu. I have 
Scanlite installed, but it is a true
light-weight compared to the old XSane. I wonder if there is something 
like the old XSane for Ubuntu, and
if so, what.  Thanx for reading--doug
