Problem with gnome-calendar and evolution caching the .ics file

I share a calendar file across multiple systems, that's the file:-

    ~/.local/share/evolution/calendar/system/calendar.ics

I recently loaded gnome-calendar on my laptop and there were events
missing that I knew I had entered into the calendar. I checked and
the events *were* actually in the calendar.ics file but gnome-calendar
wasn't showing them.

On investigation it appears that /usr/libexec/evolution-calendar-factory
caches the calendar file as, when I rebooted by laptop (and thus
restarted /usr/libexec/evolution-calendar-factory) the missing events
appeared in gnome-calendar.

Is there any way to get round this problem as it makes gnome-calendar
pretty useless for me? I just need a way to force the evolution task
to re-read the .ics file, preferably automatically from gnome-calendar.

The command line --help doesn't provide anything very useful for
either program.
