Problem with kernel 5.13.0-41, how to wait for the next one?

My Lenovo ThinkPad T470 fails to boot with the latest 5.13.0-41
kernel, it just drops me at the emergency console.  The previous
kernel 5.13.0-40 still works fine.

How do I tell my system to use 5.13.0-40 by default and to ignore
5.13.0-41?

Also how do I tell apt to *keep* 5.13.0-40 until I know I have a
working newer version?
