the forcedeth module seems to have quite a few module options you can
set.
if you are sure there is no hardware, network cable or PSU issue with
that machine that could cause this, i'd start tinkering with the
various options ... particulary the "optimization_mode" option that
"modinfo forcedeth" lists seems interesting here ...
