Hi,
I've got a Brother HL-3040CN, network connected but I use CUPS on my
home server as a print server. I occasionally need to print multi page
documents double sided, multiple copies but the printer is not duplex
capable so I need to do even sheets first with collate switched on then
turn the sheets over into the paper tray and do the same with the odd
sheets.
Trouble is the damned thing has taken to spitting out a blank sheet at
the end of every copy of the even sheets. It used to work OK.
My kludge/workaround is to have anything I want to print in pdf format,
open it with the document viewer, print to two pdf files, one for even
sheets, one for odd with multiple copies and collation turned on. This
works properly, i.e. without putting in the blank pages. Finally use
the document viewer to do a straight, simple, single copy print of the
even sheets file followed by the odd sheets file.
I'm sure I shouldn't have to do this but my workaround does the job,
only takes a minute and means that I can check that what I'm going to
print is exactly what I was intending to print by checking the odd and
even sheets files BEFORE sending them to the printer.
I'm also sure that I cannot be the only one who has done double sided
collated printing only to end up uttering expletives for several
minutes after it's gone wrong and wasted 30 sheets of paper and toner.
This doesn't happen now so I'll continue using my workaround anyway.
My laser printer takes paper off the top of the stack in the tray but
the inkjet I used to have took the paper off the bottom of the stack in
which case there might have to be some printing done in reverse page
order. Very confusing but I've now written myself a printing procedure,
follow it every time and no longer waste paper.
Hope this helps.
Dave
