Samsung m2835dw printer error

After the last updates I have an error for a Samsung m2835dw printer 
[a bit ancient but still works ok]
error is-
PCL6 error - undefined XL code
error code:  11-1313

samsung site [and others] suggests update driver - 
did that from 2016 to 2017 [latest]
still get the same error. Running kubuntu/updated desktop. Used to run
OK [for years, with 2016 driver] but no more.

error occurs when trying to print more than one copy of any doc, and
with any editor. Any ideas re how to fix this would be appreciated.
