WD My Cloud Home advice

Good afternoon,

MAY BE OFF TOPIC

I have a WD MY Cloud Home 4TB drive.

I want to convert it to a network drive for use with Ubuntu 20.04 LTS.

I ran across the following guide -

I followed the steps indicated and did not have any luck.
The drive light begins flashing but NEVER stops. As the instructions 
state that it will.

Does anyone have experience getting one of these to work as a network 
drive, that may then be used as storage device for several computers?

Is there a better solution that I might use.
