I did mention that an overheating system shortens disk lifespans,
though (unless extreme) it is less harmful to SSDs than to spinning
rust.
"Case open" can have the opposite effect - it can cause components to
heat up more than usual, because the airflow is no longer being guided
past heat-sinks etc, and everything is depending on convection and
conduction. If your case is open and you have any reason to suspect a
heat issue, get a mini-fan in there. This applies just as much to
liquid-cooled systems, as they too have heat-sinks.
