USB device registration

Is there a reliable way to tell what kind of device(s) a 'USB device' is
trying to register itself as, when just plugged in? For example, is a
USB flash drive trying to also register as a keyboard, which would be
inappropriate for a flash drive.

I need to transfer files back and forth via USB with some Win users who
are not at all careful about malware, and some USB devices may be from
anywhere. I'd like to avoid malware, and one effective malware
technique is to register as a keyboard in addition to a storage device.
And, yes, there are many others too, with other ways that also need
attention, but I'm just focused on this one for now. [But all other
protection ways are also appreciated.]

Since there does not seem to be a good way to defeat this, I plan to
destroy any USB non-keyboard devices that try to register as a keyboard.

Your thoughts and ideas much appreciated.
