Except this PC does not have an HDMI port, the 2 monitor connections are
DisplayPort..
But I guess there are such too, on Ebay and Amazon with delivery some weeks off.
Not available in my neighborhood electronics stores.. :(
Using xserver-xorg-video-dummy driver
-------------------------------------
These popped up as suggestions when I googled and found (some old) pages
regarding using the dummy driver:
https://techoverflow.net/2019/02/23/how-to-run-x-server-using-xserver-xorg-video-dummy-driver-on-ubuntu/
The instructions from 2019 are hard to follow since they talk about creating a
named file but without any trace as to WHERE to save it...
Also I suspect that this needs to be somehow connected to the X11 service, but
that too is unclear. In fact the ending part is a problem for me overall, for
example throwing in firefox in the mix...
https://askubuntu.com/questions/453109/add-fake-display-when-no-monitor-is-plugged-in
7 years old so modern kernels were not in use then...
Referencing nowadays non-existing conf files...
https://www.ghacks.net/2010/11/28/configure-linux-to-boot-without-a-monitor/
Even older, from 2010 but discussing the same topic
I have tried to get hold of a valid description for *current* kernels but failed
so far.
It seems like if there is a dummy display driver that can be set to activate if
X11 does not find a physical display, then that would be useful.
But without an install/use instruction I am anyway hosed...
