Ubuntu 20.04.3 desktop (Cinnamon) - SSH disconnects when user logs off the desktop!

The normal startup sequence is present in syslog.   All this sort of stuff

But where the apparent reboot starts the previous log just stops and
there appear to be unprintable chars between the stop and the reboot.
Exactly as one can get if the power fails, as the last syslog buffer
has not been written.
