Hi,
I get the impression that inexpensive CMR drives get replaced by
SMR drives.
My understanding is, that for example
the CMR drive "Toshiba P300 - Desktop" HDWD1*0UZSVA
became a SMR drive "Toshiba P300 - Desktop" HDWD2*0UZSVA
so they stay with the name, but with a new item-number and regarding
product photos the design of the imprint changed or
the CMR drive "Seagate BarraCuda" ST*000DM0*
became a SMR drive "Seagate BarraCuda" ST*000DM0*
IOW they keep the name and even don't change the item-number and the
product photos I've seen, even don't show another imprint design.
It seems to be the same for drives of other vendors.
I noticed this when I tried to order a new backup drive from my
favourite supplier. Some CMR drives aren't available by some sizes
anymore, of some CMR drive's sizes only a few are left and there are no
issues with ordering SMR variants of the drives with the same name
whatever size is wanted.
Regards,
Ralf
