Yes, but...........

I already have several Pis around the place.  However it's not so easy
to provide a simple standby for my desktop system on a Pi, the
differences are big enough to make it somewhat 'messy'. 

Given that a 20 watt consumption will cost something like £30 to £40 a
year to run then as long as the power consumption isn't anything too
silly it's not a major consideration.
