Why Wayland on 20.04

I am seeing this in "ps ax" on startup
  2084 tty1     Sl+    0:00 /usr/bin/Xwayland :1024 -rootless -noreset
-accessx -core -auth /run/user/122/.mutter-Xwaylandauth.9PSSG1 -listen 4
-listen 5 -displayfd 6 -listen 7

even though my /etc/gdm3/custom.conf file has
[daemon]
waylandEnable=false
DefaultSession=gnome-xorg.desktop

How is this possible ?
