In '47 I was 13 years old, I bought one of those when it went into
production a few months later and used it as a preamp in a steel guitar
I inherited after the original pickup coil failed and I rewound it with
quite a bit heavier wire. Worked well for several years but was hard on
9 volt batteries. Sounded lots better than the much higher inductance
oem coil ever did. Sweet, but I was not cut out to be a picker and
grinner. I quit school as soon as I legally could and went to work
fixing what was then the brand new things called televisions. The rest
is history, and some of it is in the old encyclopedia's. Look up the
navy's Trieste going 37k feet down into the mohole. I helped build those
two tv cameras that were on it. But I had no clue we were making history
at the time. I was just having fun and getting paid for it.
Take care and stay well, all.
Cheers, Gene Heskett.
