MATE Netspeed applet not working on UbuntuMATE 22.04.01

Hello.

The System profiler shows the OS to be UbuntuMATE 22.04.1 .

The MATE Netspeed applet shows data transmission speeds in both 
directions, as 0 B/s, all the time, even when the system monitor shows 
the download rate as being 8MB/s.

The MATE Netspeed applet is shown as being v1.26.0, which is apparently 
the version number of the MATE desktop, from the MATE desktop web site.

I do not know whether I am the only person running UbuntuMATE 22.04.1, 
but, if anyone else, is also running it, I am wondering whether they are 
also experiencing this problem.
