Possibly something has changed subtly in Ubuntu that shows up the
problem. It works the other way as well, since a large proportion of
Ubuntu 22.04 users do not see this issue then it must be something
specific to your system, and the BIOS is an obvious contender.
Did you say that the BIOS does not even recognise the drive? If so
then that is an obvious indication that all is not well in that area.
It may well be something else, but it may well be the BIOS version.
The only way of knowing is to update it. If you have exhausted all
other obvious ideas then there is really nothing else you can do.
It doesn't help you I know, but I always leave a Windows partition, at
least in part so that it is easier to update the BIOS. It is always
the first thing I check when I have a subtle issue on a machine of the
sort that you describe.
