Are you sure that you really want to get help?
What graphics are you using? What do the log files mention after you
were kicked out?
Even when not using the proprietary nvidia driver, there might be some
pointers provided by

that probably apply to Ubuntu, too or at least might provide useful
terms for Internet searches.

After log in, do any GUI apps try to autostart, e.g. by a feature that
tries to restore the last session?
