Oops, yes, I meant to make sure the backups are up to date (and are
known to be good).

I have used this technique (leaving home as it is) successfully
several times, but it is all too easy to hit the wrong button (of find
a bug in the installer) when doing major events such as installing, so
one should never assume all will go according to plan.
