I'll add a question to Karl's list. Does the PC speaker produce an
unusual beep code? A few weeks ago I fitted two new RAM bars. After 5
days I was woken up by a neighbour's alarm clock, it at least was my
first thought. My second thought was, that the alarm clock does sound
much like my PC's beeps. Hope is the last thing to die, especially when
not really awake. Actually I heard for the very first time the
continuous beep for "the RAM is fishy", since one of the two new RAM
bars passed away. Unfortunately not all beep codes are that unusual and
obtrusive as the one that signals a borked RAM. IOW you might think your
new PC's beep code for "everything is ok" is new, unusual, while it
actually might be the signal for a defect.
