Editing grub boot menu, how to save?

when I hit e on a boot line a new page is shown with the data from the boot
entry I was on.
On the bottom of the page is a help line that starts out by saying that this is
an Emacs-like editor and then goes on listing some keys and key combinations
that can be used.
None of these help items says how to *save* the edit, whereas both Ctrl-x and
F10 will run the selected boot operation, ESC will return to the boot menu
discarding the edits...
Since there is no copy function obviously and my memory is short I cannot
exactly state what it said, but I found no counterpart to ESC where the return
also saved the edits.
