Colin, Bret

thanks again.
what I did to solv the problem, was to delete
     /etc/apt/sources.list
then recreated it with the following content:

deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu impish universe main restricted
universe multiverse
     deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ impish-updates main restricted
universe multiverse
     deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ impish-backports main restricted
universe multiverse
     deb http://archive.canonical.com/ubuntu impish partner
     deb http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu impish-security main restricted
universe multiverse

it took some 2 days to show any effect, but now I got a bunch of updates.
