I think 20.10 is out of support now, and it's time to upgrade to 21.04
or better still keep going to 21.10.
There is a setting for the battery icon to only show it when it's
discharging. Perhaps that's what you need? I think it's in Settings
somewhere -- I am sorry I can't be more specific but I don't use GNOME
myself.
