application startup on terminal/shell

I have also have the Mate Terminal even though I am running XFCE 4 via
vnc viewer

 Edit -> profile preferences -> Title and Command  ->  "Run as Custom
Command instead of my shell " Custom command : neofetch

The neofetch app does start but then I get what looks like is an error message
"The child process exited normally with a status 0"
The command prompt does not appear.
