KVM issue

I'm starting to try out kvm as a possible replacement for my VirtualBox VMs.
My machine is running Xubuntu 21.10 and I have installed the following modules:
First shot: qemu-kvm libvirt-daemon-system libvirt-clients
bridge-utils virtinst virt-manager
After the group adjustments and a logout-login cycle, and a systemctl
edit of the libvirtd service to add /usr/lib as a library, I ran the
virt-manager and got this error on a New:
Warning: KVM is not available. <and a lot of related text that doesn't copy>
It seems to be up and running, so I poked around and found this
install - linux-kvm.
I added that and still get the warning.
What did I miss? What else needs to be installed to use kvm?
Thanks.
Mark
