All directories, IOW including /home, excepted of /boot, due to the
syslinux bootloader and /tmp which is tmpfs are usually within the root
directory. While disk space isn't an issue for me, I'm doing it still
for the same reason as Colin, to avoid the need to resize partitions.

as PC internal SSD and a lot of external HDD, too.
"17GB of a lifetime of photos" would be way to small for me.

Actually I often just need half of the megapixel for animation films,
however, 17GB is absolutely nothing.
