Thank you Ralf,
I also tried VirtualBox from Oracle and it still wouldn't allow me to
install Windows from the bootable USB drive but it did give me an option
to install from the .iso file on my hard drive. At went well up to where
I had to sign into to my Microsoft account. After that I got three
"something went wrong" errors with a retry button to click. After the
third retry I gave it away. Another 3 hours wasted! The link that you
sent me, and other results from searching, indicate that installing from
a bootable USB drive is not possible.
I might see if I can find Windows 10 on a DVD but I don't think that's
very likely. I do have an old mechanical hard disk drive with both
Windows and Linux on it (why I cannot do the same with the SSD that's in
the laptop is beyond me) that I could swap out twice a year whenever I
need to use Windows. It's not an ideal solution because I will end up
wearing the connector contacts.
