AMD CPU locks up during video playback

I ran Ubuntu successfully on the same computer for years and years until
20.04 caused me nothing but grief much like this. I never did find a good
answer and eventually just switched to a different computer, but one
thing I found was that in every case when it looked like the box was
completely frozen, I could still log in via ssh from a different machine.

Of course, all I could do at that point was use the command line to
reboot. But if you're able to connect via ssh, maybe you can find a
clue in top and possibly even be able to kill the offending process.
