No internet error message " overlaysfs missing 'lowerdir' "

This is a separate issue on another machine.

The machine refused to reboot properly with the above message.

After some trial and error in recovery mode and reinstalling the
Linux image file,  it is kind of  booting up.

What I mean  by kind of booting up , after login box it is taking about  5+
minutes.

The other main problem is I have no internet even when I have an ethernet
wired connection.

The WiFi network is listed and connected

But nothing from browser
and I can't run apt to try and re-install the broken packages.
