Hi,
consider to disable the automation and to configure grub.cfg manually
or by your own automation script. I've done this when using GRUB a
long, long time ago, before I migrated to syslinux. IIRC 1. wasn't
possible, but 2. is easy to achieve.
Both are easy to achieve when using syslinux.
This are three photos showing the complete syslinux menu [1], of my
Linux multi-boot PC [2]. The syslinux.cfg is attached.
