Hello.

I am running UbuntuMATE 21.04 on three different computers.

In a previous OT post, I referred to the data download speeds, in MB/s.

In running a system update (my second out of three to be done),
involving about 940MB of downloads, I observed the Network speed
applet in the panel (the applet's name, from the About option, is Mate
Netspeed), and noticed that it specified the rates, in MiB/s and
KiB/s.

That led me to wonder; does the MiB refer to MegaBytes, as 1,000 x
1,000, like Mega gram, or Mega metre, or, does it refer to MegaBytes,
as 1024 x 1024, and, similarly, does the KiB refer to KiloBytes, as
1,000 bytes, like kilometre and kilotonne, or, does it refer to
kilobytes, as 1024 bytes?

I have not previously been aware of the use of MiB and KiB, and, I an
unsure as to which value, each refers.

Thank you in anticipation.
