I started top as the first thing I did, then I tried to set appearance (so I 
could hide the left dock) the sceen came up in front of the terminal, which had 
been running about 24 seconds before it locked up, it stayed that way for about 
35 minutes (not sure exactly as I had gone to make a pot of tea) when I came 
back it showed the password screen again (post suspend?) I managed to enter the 
password, but then it locked again, for around 40 minutes, and then showed a 
black screen with one line of text, 

"Buffer Evacuation Failed" 

a hour later it still showed and I had to turn off (got really bored)

AFAICT it was still using the default driver, I never got to set the Nvidia 
driver
