HWE stack on Raspberry Pi

I had noticed stability improvements in Ubuntu Server on my RasPi 4
(4GB) since 20.04 came out.

E.g. the wifi stayed up for days, not hours.

I recently noticed that I did not get the new kernel when 20.04.2 was
released. So, I installed it manually:

 sudo apt install --install-recommends linux-generic-hwe-20.04

It worked, for some values of "worked". It installed a new kernel,
5.8.0-44. It's in /boot.

But it's not booting it. I am still on 5.4.0-1029.

RasPis do not use GRUB and I think Ubuntu does not use a bootloader at
all. It just lets the RasPi firmware start kernel.img from the FAT32
partition on its µSD card.

My server is headless so if there is any boot screen displayed, I can't see it.

Is there anything special I have to do to make it use the newer kernel?
