Use sudo to get the required permissions.

Thanks for the help!! I have figured out how to get to the info. I
looked at a few boot logs. Here is part of what I found:

The failed bootlogs end with:

[ OK ] Finished Set console scheme.
[ OK ] Created slice system-getty.slice.
[ OK ] Started Manage, Install and Generate Color Profiles.

I don't see the last line in any of the other boot info.

An earlier successful boot ends with:

[ OK ] Finished Set console scheme.
[ OK ] Created slice system-getty.slice.

The DVD boot log is rather different, as one might expect, and ends
with:

[ OK ] Started Hostname Service.
[ OK ] Started Thermal Daemon Service.
[ OK ] Started Network Name Resolution.
[ OK ] Reached target Host and Network Name Lookups.
[ OK ] Started Modem Manager.
[ OK ] Started WPA supplicant.

The "[ OK ] Started Manage, Install and Generate Color Profiles." line
is only in failed boot logs. Could that be related to the problem?

I was also able to copy much of the original SSD data to a HD using the
CLI. Some of the files may still have permission problems [some came
from other sources, and I had permission problems even before this] and
did not get copied. But, looking at what was copied, I got perhaps 95%
of the files, so MUCH better than nothing. Not all, though, so I'd like
to avoid doing anything that might lose that data on the original SSD.

Again, many thanks...

Rik
