Kubuntu won't boot

well, just coming at this tangentially:
if a live USB drive or similar works, then probably your hardware is mostly
fine. Never hurts to run a RAM test.
Anyhow, if it's possible, swap out the hard drive. Can you pop that hard
drive into another machine?
A more technical approach would be, I think, to delve into GRUB. That
however, is beyond my skill-level.
For general RCA (Root Cause Analysis) I suggest trying to isolate the
problem. Probably your motherboard and RAM are fine.
