Install network printer when `add printer' finds nothing

Thanks for your helpful respone,
After posting I thought of the very thing you suggest above. I did
ferret out (thru my tp-link (Archer_c8) router ) what must be their
IPs and used them in the `add-a-printer' dialog but still just comes
up with the `CUPS-BRF-Printer' bull puckey.
That printer dialog has the feeling that it just is not working fully
or at least not as intended.
Anyone know how the printer dialog `searches' for printers? What does it
look for. How does it identify network IPs as printer or not.
There must be a command line route to getting a printer serviceable.
Anyone have more ideas?
