With the most superior version of Ubuntu; 16.04, coming up to End Of
Life in the next week or so, and, the significant changes from that
version to the later LTS versions, I am surprised that the two
questions gave not yet been put in this thread (I do not remember
seeing the questions being put);

1. Why are you still using 14.04, and, importantly,

2. Why do you want to try to update 14.04, rather than simply perform
a clean install of the latest LTS version (20.04), or, the upcoming
21.04?
