there are plenty of x86 based SBCs in the embedded space and all the
x86 chromebooks that use u-boot already ...
the problem is that u-boot is really that, a bootloader for embedded
devices with a single purpose ...
on standard PCs you want a multi purpose bootloader that is as flexible
and generic as possible so you can boot all imaginable combinations of
setups and OSes, with and without different secureboot implementations,
with the ability to chain-load any other possible bootloader, etc etc
if it was just "boot linux and nothing more, in one single setup" we
could have stayed with lilo ;)
