`quiet splash` breaks 20.04.1 server image boot process, but not desktop?

Follow-up: I think I’m hitting

which is pretty old meanwhile but did not seem to be fixed. The workaround with the rc.local is not applicable (at least 1:1) with the systemd transition. I’ll ad myself into that bug report eventually.

If anyone wants to test this or has an idea for a workaround this would obviously be very welcome :)
