Screensaver issue

I was running Xubuntu 18.04 until a little while ago (within the last
few weeks) when I upgraded to 20.04. I was using xscreensaver and had
to uninstall it and reinstall it for it to work. It seems that the
new version is part of the release but I had some issues with it.
The first issue was that the xfce4-screensaver kept coming back and
taking over. I went to Session and Startup settings to take it out,
and it came back again uninvited. I've taken the second one out and
now it seems to be more benevolent - it's not coming back again
anymore.
However, the new xscreensaver does something I haven't seen for a long
time. When I unlock the screen, there are a series of messages in a
tiny font in the upper left side of the screen until the unlock
completes. they look like this (transcribed from a photo, so I hope
this is correct):
xscreensaver: unloadable, unparsable font: *-*-dina-bold-r-*-*-10-*-*-*-*-*-*-*
xscreensaver: unloadable, unparsable font: *-*-dina-bold-r-*-*-10-*-*-*-*-*-*-*
xscreensaver: unloadable, unparsable font:
*-*-dina-medium-r-*-*-10-*-*-*-*-*-*-*xscreensaver: unloadable,
unparsable font: *-*-dina-medium-r-*-*-10-*-*-*-*-*-*-*
xscreensaver: unloadable, unparsable font: *-*-dina-bold-r-*-*-10-*-*-*-*-*-*-*
xscreensaver: unloadable, unparsable font:
*-*-dina-medium-r-*-*-10-*-*-*-*-*-*-*
xscreensaver: unloadable, unparsable font:
*-*-dina-medium-r-*-*-10-*-*-*-*-*-*-*
I looked this up in Google, but the answers are greek to me and I
don't see the connection to xscreensaver. I did try xset fp rehash,
but that doesn't solve the issue.
Does anyone know?
Thanks.
Mark
