I don't think you have confirmed whether apt update and full-upgrade
showed any issues.

Unplug the ethernet and run
sudo journalctl -f
and plug it in and see what it shows

Also I have to ask, have you checked the other end of the ethernet is
plugged into something useful and that trying another cable doesn't
help?
