There is also the newer Geary app.
Broadly, Evolution is a competitor to MS Outlook. Geary is a
competitor to Gmail.

I used Pine at university. I didn't like it much. But If you do, fine
-- try Mutt. It is the same style of app, but more modern and
powerful.

It fought hard for it, and temporarily renamed the service Googlemail
in the UK because someone else had trademarked "gmail".
