bad block/superblock on new disk?

First of all, stuff is cheap when business is as usual, and right now
it is the opposite of usual. But the real problem is time. HDDs from
reputable vendors take weeks to arrive, at least here. This, and what
I just answered to Liam, is why I would love to find a fix, but does
not seem possible.
